A silent beep is heard in the background as the smell
of disinfectant lingers in the air.
"How long has she been in there?" Amy asked looked
through a window at Serena.
"Since Molly was brought in," Mina replied.
"What about her mother?"
"Her mother is in Europe and well, we can't get
a hold of her," Mina confesses as a a tear drops from
Amy's cheek.
"Poor Serena, this has got to be hard on her." Serena
caresses Molly's hand as she lays in a deep sleep.
"Why Molly, she's got a life a head of her? I wish
I could heal her but my wand only works on Nega scum.
Oh, please Molly don't die" Serena softly says as
she lifts Molly's hand to her cheek. The monitors
stay steady; the consistent beeping is the only thing
that gives Serena comfort. Serena remembers what the
doctor had told her
"As long as this beeping stays steady that means
Molly's heart is steady, that's important." How could
she forget, it was one of the most scary moments of
her life. They were walking through the cemetery as
Molly was going to place a single white rose on a
grave. The air was warm and had a coolness when it
blew. The cemetery was empty and yet full, as a serenity
seemed to fall over it. The girls were just out of
school and still in their uniforms. Serena's long
blond hair danced in the wind, like graceful ribbons.
Her skirt kept trying to blow up around her, but she
kept fighting it. Her white sweater shirt kept hugging
around her and the collar kept hitting her cheeks.
Molly's outfit was acting like Serena's but it didn't
bother her as much. She walked as if she floated her
short red-brown hair lightly blew around her adding
an air of mystery to her.
"Who's grave are we going to?" Serena asked in her
playful way.
"Nephlyte's, it's been three years ago to the day
that he was killed," Molly said, clenching the delicate
flower.
"I thought you were over that, Molly" Serena asked.
"I'll never really get over him, he was my first
and truly only love." They talked all the way to Nephlyte's
gravestone. Molly knelt down in front of it, lightly
kissing her fingertips she touched it. It was cool
to the touch, the marble head stone read, "Here Lies
Maxfield 'Nephlyte' Stanton. Never forget me, You
are in my heart. Oh, Nephlyte," Molly began to lightly
sob. Serena knelt down beside her, placing a hand
on her shoulder.
"Molly, it will be okay, one day you'll meet someone
and love him more, I know it." She said reassuringly.
Molly touched Serena's hand, then fell forward. "Molly!"
Serena cried in fear. A groundskeeper rushed over
to see Molly unconscious in front of the grave, and
Serena desperately trying to scoop Molly up.
"I'll get help, don't move her!" he yelled.
"Molly, Molly, wake up, please Molly please!" she
began to cry. The EMT team arrived and began checking
Molly.
"Are you family?"
"No, I'm her best friend."
"Do you know how to contact her family?"
"I don't know about her father and her mother is
in Europe buying new jewelry for her shop"
"Do you know anything about her medical history?"
"Is she going to be okay?"
"I'll repeat, do you know anything about her medical
history?"
"No, I don't," at this point Serena began to cry.
"Come with us then," a female EMT said to her helping
her into the ambulance. The sirens roared as the ambulance
sped to the hospital, the EMT were resuscitating Molly.
"Beeeeeeeepppppppp!"
"She's going into cardiac shock, 50cc of adrenaline,
now!"
"Clear!" she plunged a large syringe into Molly's
chest. Serena almost fainted and began to feel queasy
at that point.
"We have pulse, radio ahead get an emergency cardio
team ready we have a potential failure here, her vitals
are slowly dropping and the adrenaline will buy us
minutes at most."
"If she shocks again I don't know if we can save
her" he said, half sighing. "She's leveling off below
normal standards, but she's holding"
"What's going on?" Serena asked scared and sad.
"Your friend's heart is failing slowly, this could
be caused by a number of things but the doctors will
know more at the hospital." He placed a warm hand
on Serena's shoulder.
"Failing...Is she going to die?"
"I don't know but let's pray for the best." He smiled
at her and Serena felt a little better. They reached
the hospital as five people rushed to the ambulance
two doctors and three nurses, they took Molly and
Serena ran after. She reached the operating room doors
and was stopped.
"I'm sorry ma'am but no one except for medical personal
are allowed."
"I have to know how she is doing"
"You'll know as soon as the doctors do, in the meantime
can you fill this out to the best of your ability."
She handed Serena a clip board with questions on it.
"Okay", Serena took the board and sat down in a nearby
chair and started filling it out. When Serena finished
she returned the board and went to the pay phone.
She dialed Amy's number first as she knew that Amy
would be home studying.
"Hello?"
"Amy?"
"Yes, Serena is that you, what's wrong, you sound
scared?"
"I'm at the hospital downtown.."
"Oh, my God are you okay?"
"Not for me, but Molly, the ambulance people said
something about cardio shock"
"I'll get a hold of the others you stay there, and
Serena, Molly will be fine I know it." They hung up
and Serena went to sink in a padded chair nearby.
"Serena!" Rei said shaking her.
"Guys you're here," Serena hugged Darien and began
to cry. "They have been operating since 4:30, I don't
know anything." Serena then began to explain what
happened.
"I hope she makes it." Said Lita. "In the meantime
time Mina, why don't we try to locate Molly's mom,
maybe she left something at her place"
"All right Rei, let's go," Rei and Mina gave Serena
one more hug and left.
"I can check out the shop some other jewelers and
see if they know anything."
"Darien, don't leave me, I need you."
"No Serena, Molly needs you more, besides this won't
take long."
"Oh all right." They gave each other a tender kiss
and Darien left.
"I'll go back to school and see if they have any
info maybe some on Molly's dad," Lita smiled and left.
"Amy are you leaving too?" Serena asked.
"No, silly, I'm going to stay here with you, everyone
else has everything covered."
"Thanks, Amy, I guess as much as Molly needs someone
so do I." Two hours go by and a doctor comes out.
He removes his operating mask.
