"Oh, God where do I begin," Prisma hesitated, "no
wait, I know it all started about two week ago. I
had just closed the shop. Taking extra care to lock
the door. I picked up my brown alligator briefcase
and placed the keys in my coat pocket. The night air
had a coolness to it and when it blew it had a bite.
'Brrr.. it's awfully cool, already,' I whispered.
I put down my briefcase and began to button my emerald
green trench coat. As I fumbled with the last button,
the wind blew again. A little harder than below and
little more cool, sending shivers up my spine. When
I looked up I saw a dark figure in the shadows. He,
well it had to be a guy because of the body frame
it had, was standing beside the outer light rim of
the street lamp and the dark shadowed wall. Only giving
me a vague outline of him. He didn't move just stood
there, I guess watching me. 'Who's there?' I asked,
readying myself for any type of confrontation. There
was no answer, he just stood there. The wind blew
again much harder than before, and it forced my eyes
shut. I lowered my head to help shield my eyes as
small gravel and dirt were being swept up and blowing
at me.
'Prisma...' a voice called. It was so faint I couldn't
tell if it was male or female. But the voice rang
through my head, echoing. By now, as you can guess
I was a little nervous. The wind died and I looked
up, only to see an empty alley. He was gone, as fast
as he came in he was gone. I tried to brush it off
as too much work, but this weary feeling of deja-vu
hit me. 'Did I know this person? Was it someone I
hurt?..' the thoughts just kept going through my head.
For the rest of the week I couldn't stop thinking
about it. I couldn't even tell my sister about it,
for fear of going insane.
'What's wrong Prisma?'
'Huh?' I came out of my trance like state and saw
Catsy staring at me. Her face wore concern all over
it and a really ugly facial mask too. She pulled up
a chair placed her mug of hot lemon tea down.
'You've been staring at nothing for almost thirty
minutes.'
'Catsy you wouldn't believe me if I told you.'
''Try me, hey, what are sisters for?' We talked for
the rest of the night, Catsy reassured me that I wasn't
going insane, probably stress and I should take tomorrow
off and go shopping. I admit I felt better, and besides
it happened a week ago.
The day was warm and bright, perfect for walking.
The sidewalk was busy with people enjoying the day.
Children were bugging their parents over candy and
Halloween costumes. People were on dates sharing ice
cream and well, it was a nice day. I was waiting for
the walk signal to cross the street when I looked
up. There was this men's fashion add with the cutest
guy in just a pair of jeans. I couldn't help but stare,
he had a medium build and a relaxed but strong look
on him. In a way I guess he reminded me of Sapphire.
Sapphire on our dates could be a real gentleman. He
always opened doors, pulled out my chair, and paid
for everything. He was always relaxed, unless it was
serious. As I gazed more into the models' face I noticed
something. He looked like Sapphire, the same eyes,
cool expression, even his haircut. I closed my eyes
in disbelief.
'Okay Prisma you're seeing things again' I thought
to myself. I opened them again and the model looked
different, the eyes were different and so was his
hair. 'I knew it!' I said out loud, clenching my fist.
'I was seeing things again, but why Sapphire?' I began
to ponder this. I saw a park about a block over and
decided that a walk through the trails would help
me. However, the more I walked, the more I thought,
'Why Sapphire? Why is all this haunting me now? Am
I losing it? Maybe Catsy was right it could be stress?'
These few thoughts raced trough my mind endlessly.
I couldn't take it, I stopped in my tracks. Looking
at the sky I took a deep breath, threw my head back
and yelled, 'Is it you, Sapphire?!'
The wind kicked up blowing leaves all around me.
'Yessss' the wind hissed and that's when I came here."
"Very strange, indeed Prisma." Rei noted. She sat
before the fire and began to meditate. 'There is a
presence here" she said, "it's faint, but here"
"SSappphire?"
"I don't know" Rei stood up she began to fan the
fire. "The fire doesn't know either"
"Is there anyway we can find out?" Prisma asked,
anxious for an answer. Rei stood up tall, gazed at
Prisma, something was different about her.
Rei's eyes went from caring to serious, as if what
she had to say was crucial. Rei's eyes became illuminated
and her aura became visible. She looked like she was
on fire but a white fire, yet no heat. He red silk
kimono had turned darker, almost a blood red. Rei
began to float above the floor her hair flew upward
as if a fan was under her blowing it. Prisma crouched
back, her eyes were a mix of fear and adrenaline.
She held the back of her hand to her mouth and almost
gasped in disbelief. Rei outstretched both arms, she
hovered like a angelic demon, a figure to fear and
yet love, she began to speak.
"In two days is Samhain, the holiday of the dead.
Upon this day, the line between the astral plane and
the Earthly realm become weak. Spirits can roam the
earth and psychic powers are at their peak. Upon this
day those who died before their natural time are given
a chance. They can be resurrected, but only by their
true love, both must feel it and then will Death let
the spirit return. Death's doorway must be found and
crossed, it shall appear......."
"Where?!" Prisma yelled reaching for Rei. Rei began
to fall, Prisma was able to catch her. Rei's head
laid in Prisma's lap and she strokes Rei's hair. "How
is it possible? I hope Rei will be all right, it looked
like a pretty big psychic deal." Prisma clenched her
fist and began to think harder about this. "Where
is this gate? Maybe I've hallucinated the whole thing?
Am I going insane? No, Rei will believe me....I hope."
Prisma, anxious with excitement and fear couldn't
sit any longer. She pulled a near by pillow and placed
Rei's head on it. Grabbing her handbag, Prisma fled
from the room. As she walked down the bamboo hallway
a figure jumped out at her.
"AAAHHH!!" Prisma screamed as she jumped back, this
time her suit skirt tore.
"Hello there, I'm Grandpa!"
"Oh it's you, I guess I'm jumpy." Prisma grasp a
little breath and felt relieved. Grandpa stood there
in his pajamas, they were blue and shimmered, with
little rabbits on them. His chubby little face showed
years of wisdom and years lacked of maturity. A kind
of person that you could talk to and be silly with
at the same time.
"No need to be jumpy, not with old Grandpa around."
He leaped in front of her and took a karate stance.
Prisma let out a slight chuckle as she patted Grandpa's
bald head.
"You know," she said half laughing. "I think every
woman needs a protector like you."
Grandpa looked up and flashed her a slightly cheesy
smile. "Oh, yes you know you're right in fact I should
offer myself as a protector and make some money for
the temple." He blushed and began practicing his karate
moves. As Grandpa finally stopped, Prisma kneeled
down and kissed his cheek.
"You're one in a million Grandpa, but please tell
Rei that I had to leave, I'll call her tomorrow."
Prisma stood up, took one final look at the tear in
her skirt and walked out.
Grandpa was frozen, his face was as red as cherries,
after a second he began to wave. "You come back when
you need good Old Grandpa to protect you!" he laughed.
Prisma ran all the way home, she stopped once for
a passing car, but that once was all it took. The
car pulled over and the passenger window rolled down.
"Oh God, not another illusion," Prisma began to
think. She could feel herself getting flushed, she
clenched her trench coat and braced herself.
