Chapter
"Hey Priz, you want a ride?"
"Huh, Avery is that you?"
"Who else? You look like you've seen a ghost." Avery
got out of the car. She wore a pair of blue jeans
and a white silk shirt, with the top two buttons undone.
Her hair was pulled back into a high tight bun and
was adorned with two jeweled hair sticks. For Avery
this was a simple look, but the car was new.
"Avery, you wouldn't believe me if I told you. Hey
where did you get the new wheels?" Prisma was admiring
the black sports car in front of her, it was sleek
and looked like a Porsche but more streamlined.
"Hey, Priz, Catsy told us, so why don't you get in
and get a cup of coffee with me, my date ended early,
come on I'll tell you all the details."
"All right Ave." Prisma jumped into the car. The
seats were leather and stereo had a CD player in it,
Prisma pulled down the sun visor. The mirror had two
lights one on each side and Prisma adjusted her face.
Avery jumped in, she grabbed her seat belt and fastened
it.
"I suggest you put your seat belt on too."
Prisma put the visor back up, and put her seat belt
on.
"Are you ready for the ride of your life?"
"Sure" Prisma began to wonder what was in store for
her. Avery pushed the clutch in and shifted into first,
the car took off. Prisma noticed that Avery was doing
some pretty serious shifting. "I hate to ask, but
how fast are we going?" Prisma asked as her heart
began to beat a little faster.
"About 75 rpm" Avery answered, "Why you want to go
faster?"
"No but what about the cops?"
"Come on Priz, live a little." Avery hit the gas
again and the car went faster. Cornering like it was
on rails, the car handled like a dream; if you didn't
know the speed you couldn't tell by feel. A few minutes
went by like seconds and they were at the coffee shop.
"Wow, Avery that was a ride."
"Yeah, I know."
"Where did you get that bad boy?"
"I won a bet and that's why my date ended early."
"Oh."
"Come on, they have the best espresso"
The shop was a little smoky and kind of small. The
right wall had a mural of fantasy creatures, Mages,
and knights, all in a battle. The right hand side
was a beautiful smoke glass bar and every stool was
taken with guys watching the late boxing match and
women trying to act like they know who the boxers
are. A waiter came out and smiled at Avery.
"Hey Ave." he said kissing her cheek.
"Hiya Mike, hey we need two espressos."
"No problem" Prisma and Avery found their way back
to an empty table away from the smoke.
"Isn't this place cool?"
"It's nice."
"Come on Prisma, you have to relax. I've found new
vitality living here, I feel so alive, unlike on the
Nega Moon."
"Oh, so that explains your wild ways." Prisma said
lounging back into her chair.
"Yep." Avery winked at her, in a playful manner.
Mike came out with the espressos, and carefully placed
them in front of the women. A piece of paper slipped
out of his pocket.
"I'll get it," Prisma said, bending over to get it.
She noticed a little scribbling on it and couldn't
help but read it. Her eyes widened a little for it
said, 'The gate will be on the road of his death,
find it and he'll be free.' She threw the paper on
the table, horrified.
"Prisma? Priz, hey what's wrong? Mike get a glass
of cool water, please."
"Sure Avery."
"Ttthe paper.."
"What about it, it's blank," as Avery picked up the
paper it was blank.
"No, it had writing on it."
"Here Avery," Mike whispered as he placed the water
on the table.
"Prisma, take a breath and then take a sip. Try to
calm down and tell me everything." Avery said, putting
her hand on Prisma's.
"Okay, I'll tell you what happened earlier." Prisma
took another deep breath and began to tell the whole
story again. Avery sat there sipping her espresso,
listening to every word.
"Wow, that's..." Avery paused searching for the
right word.
"Weird, huh?" Prisma answered.
"Yeah, but why?"
"Dunno, why me? I've always been the strong one,
the leader, only for what, to go mad?"
"No, not to go mad, but maybe there is something
here that you are not thinking about."
"Like what?"
"When you promised Sapphire that he would always
live in your heart, well maybe he took that to the
grave."
"Yeah."
"Besides its Halloween and it does strange things
to your mind."
"Yeah."
"What ever the answer we'll find it, together."
"Thanks Avery." They hugged.
They talked all night, trying to find an answer.
The next morning Prisma awoke, on the couch. She sat
up with the afghan lightly folded on her, it was white
cotton with little fringes.
"Hey, good morning" Prisma peeked over the couch
to see her sisters all sitting around the table with
coffee and books.
"What time is it?" Prisma asked half yawning.
"Around ten" Birdie answered. She got up and poured
a cup of coffee. Taking the cup to Prisma she quietly
sat down. Birdie had her long hair down in two low
braids, she wore a big blue T-shirt and white boxer
shorts. She glanced back to Catsy.
"Can you bring me that one book?"
"Sure," Catsy said, picking up a large leather
book. She came over and took a seat on the oak coffee
table, careful not to spill Prisma's coffee. Catsy
had her hair all in rollers, which was normal for
her, and her big fuzzy robe on. She placed the book
in her lap. and opened to a section almost in the
middle.
"What's that?"
"That, Prisma, is a book of witches lore and magic,
a grimore." Birdie answered.
"Yeah, it has everything, even love potions," retorted
Catsy.
"Hey let's get to the point," Avery's voice quipped
from the kitchen, "Wait first, I'll be there in a
second."
"Hurry up," Birdie said.
"Okay," Avery ran over, she placed one hand on the
back of the couch and swung over into the cushions
and almost landing on Prisma. She was still wearing
that white shirt, but she took the bun out of her
hair.
"Thanks, for trying to kill me."
"No problem, Pris." Smiled Avery.
"Okay here's what we found, according to this book.
Samhain was a Celtic holiday, where the new year began,
it's a night of divination and chanting, a night to
remember and honor the departed. Which is why the
Astral Plane is weak, so that you can attune your
magic to the new wheel of the year. It says here that
the souls of those that died before there time will
be able to come back. They must be pleaded for by
their true love, and then they are bound to that love
for the rest of their life. The love will be asked
to make a sacrifice, if it can't be made then the
soul can't be released. The love must go to the site
of his/her death and await for Death's doorway, which
can only appear between sunset and midnight. It will
only appear fro a minute and the love must step in
front of it and call the name of their love one, to
keep Death from moving....." Catsy closed the book.
"So what do I have to sacrifice, a cat or something?"
Prisma asked.
"Who knows, it's up to Death." Catsy answered.
Standing up, Prisma put her fist into her hand, she
became very serious and replied, "then whatever the
sacrifice, I would make it for Sapphire."
"Hey, Priz," said Avery as she grabbed for Prisma's
hand, "What if Death wants one of us for him?"
Prisma was shocked, she never thought of that, she
began to sink back into the white fluffy couch. Birdie,
took her other hand in sympathy. "I can't trade my
sisters for him, blood is thicker than water, right?!"
"Right!" Avery, Birdie, and Catsy exclaimed in unison.
They spent the rest of the morning discussing a plan
of action. After a quick shower, Prisma decided to
call Rei. Prisma sprawled out in her large armchair,
placing her legs over the right arm and leaning against
the left. She was still in her light green bath towel,
her hair was dripping all over everything. She reached
back for the cordless behind her, she dialed the temple.
"Hello."
"Hi, Rei, it's Prisma"
"Hi, how are you?"
"Fine, fine and you?"
"Confused, what happened last night?"
"Rei, are you sitting down?"
"Yeah why?"
"Well what happened last night will shock you." Prisma
took a deep breath and sank into her chair. She told
Rei everything, even about Avery's new car.
"I don't believe it!" Rei exclaimed.
"I told you, I know who wants to believe that they
were possessed."
"No, that Avery was that good of a poker player,"
Rei laughed.
"Can you help?"
"Yeah now, where did Sapphire die, and do you need
the others there too?"
"I guess I need all the support I can get."
"All right tell me where and I already know when."
"He died on Hasasan Ave, by the tower."
"Great I'll get to work calling everyone."
"All right, thanks Rei."
"No problem, it's really cool, I mean love from
beyond the grave and all that. Bye Prisma."
"Bye Rei." Prisma hung up the phone and took a breath,
she felt relieved. "Such wonderful friend I have."
Prisma had closed her eyes and began a slight meditation.
She pictured her body and the seven chakra centers
opening and her aura protecting her. Her body began
to relax as her meditation proceeded, she envisioned
a field of grain. She was standing there in a long
prairie dress, relaxed and full of hope. Out of no
where came a presence it was a black robed figure,
whose face could not be seen. Prisma tried to break
her meditation but couldn't. She froze as the figure
flew to her. It stretched a hand and grabbed her arm,
holding a scythe to her throat, it spoke.
"Will you die for him?!"
"Who?!"
"Will you die for him!?" The voice was more intense
and the grip was stronger. Prisma became weak in fear
but she kept it together long enough to know who it
was talking about. 'It meant Sapphire, is this my
sacrifice? What shall I do?' her mind raced.
"Yes, I will die for him!" she screamed, much to
her amazement. The figure disappeared into the air
as fast as it appeared.
Prisma woke up, she was sweating, placing her head
into her hand she began to think "What have I done?"
A tear fell from her cheek. "No, I must be strong.
For Sapphire I would risk my life. He was and shall
always be my heart, and love." Finding a new strength
Prisma got dressed. 'Time passes quickly upon this
day.' Prisma noted as she stood on Hasasan Ave. Catsy,
Avery and Birdie were there waiting with her. The
city lights came on all but one which left a circle
of darkness in the road.
"That must be where," Birdie pointed as she noticed
it. No sooner than she said that as it appeared. The
door was transparent looking real and imaginary, but
it was just a psychic-kinetic field. However if you
looked in it the street was no where it was nothingness.
"Where's Rei and everyone?" Prisma asked as she became
flushed.
"Don't worry about them, you have us. Go quickly,
it will leave soon." Catsy stated.
Prisma walked forward her long black skirt blowing
against her, slowing her walking. Her cyan sweater
pressed against her, accenting her bust. She wore
only a little make up and looked as fresh as a new
day. She reached the door, and bowed to it, in honor.
This took all her strength as she was terrified. Her
sisters were a few steps behind her trying to give
her strength through love. Prisma closed her eyes,
focused and screamed, "Sapphire!"
The door began to thunder and a figure moved forward.
It wore a black hooded flowing robe, it's face was
not visible. It was Death, coming forward. The scythe
was old, the blade was long and made of tempered steel,
and the handle was black oak. The figure bowed it's
head and motioned his hand. Another figure came forward,
it was Sapphire. Her wore his General attire and around
his neck was a shackle. He looked sad, his eyes were
heavy and his mouth wore a frown.
"I am Uriel, the Angel of Death, I keep the purgatory
and help those find heaven or hell. You have come,
Prisma, for the life of Sapphire."
"Yes, I offer any sacrifice for his life."
"Would you die for him?" It was the same voice from
her meditation, she had already answered.
"Yes, I would give my life for him, for without him
there is no real life." She began to cry her defenses
were gone. She confessed to Death a secret she wouldn't
even admit to herself. She felt weak, and scared,
her pride had washed itself away. She felt anew, more
caring and compassionate, feeling she gave up along
time ago.
"Then your sacrifice was made." Death, had walked
forward, to touch her.
"Prisma!" Avery yelled, she wanted to reach out
to her but Catsy and Birdie held her back.
"No, Avery it's what she wanted, remember that."
Catsy commanded. They stood in terror willing to comply
with what Prisma wanted. Death touched Prisma it placed
a cold hand on her heart. It's touch became warm very
quickly and Prisma began to hover.
Rei, Serena, Lita, Mina, and Amy all showed up. They
stood in terror at what they saw.
Serena sank behind Lita, grasping her shoulders.
She cried, "I can't watch, I wanna go home."
Lita clenched a fist and was ready to charge at Death.
Rei jumped in front of her, "No, it's too late, for
her, Lita if he touches you, you're gone!"
"But, Rei, I thought we came here to help."
"We did, I guess we'll have to help Catsy, Avery,
and Birdie, mourn." Mina said pointing to the sisters.
Prisma fell, to the ground, her body seemed lifeless.
"Priz, no!" Avery yelled, collapsing to her knees.
Catsy and Birdie began to cry but kept enough strength
to comfort Avery. Serena, and the others went to them.
The girls all held each other, in comfort, crying
together. Yet the all looked up as Death moved away.
The shackles on Sapphire disappeared, and he became
whole again. He was flesh, once more. He looked around
and gasped at air, like a fish pulled up too fast
on a hook.
Sapphire ran to the fallen Prisma on the street.
He cradled her in his arm, he became overwhelmed in
sadness.
"Damn you, Prisma, why? You were supposed to live,
and that was how I was going to live in your heart.
I don't want to be here if you're not. I lost you
once because of both of our prides, I didn't want
to lose you to Death."
Death stood in front of the door, hovering like
a black plague. Sapphire, placed his lips on hers
and kissed her. Death began to glow, his scythe moved
up and spun above Sapphire and Prisma. Dark sparkles
flew everywhere as Sapphire finished his resurrection,
he was human. In that second Prisma moved, she moved
her head a little.
"Prisma, you're alive, come on, baby speak to me."
Sapphire pleaded, tapping Prisma's cheek. The girls
all watched in the background. They began to cross
finger and prey that Prisma really was alive. Serena
couldn't believe this, she looked at them with hope,
her faith in love was renewed.
"Love conquers all, even Death," she whispered. Prisma
opened her eyes and looked at Sapphire,
"Are you real?"
"Yes."
"I did it then?"
"No Prisma, love did it, you just happen to harbor
it." Sapphire kissed her again. The girls all exclaimed,
but because of Death's appearance they didn't move.
"Your sacrifice was what delayed your love. Pride,
a vice that had to be given up for love, for only
love can reach through heaven, hell and everywhere
else. It can save lives, but if taken can destroy
them. Pride aids well, never for get that, for now
your pride is mine." Death and his door faded into
the shadows.
Everyone was frozen except for Sapphire and Prisma
who were locked in an embrace, that could stop time
itself.
