Chapter
Just then, with a sudden jerk, she felt strong arms
pull her back quickly. She was confused and stunned
for a moment and quickly realized who it was.
“What are you doing?!” It was Darien. “You just thought
you’d bail out on me? I thought you were doing better!
Why didn’t you talk to me?!” Darien was obviously
very angry and Minako was embarrassed. She didn’t
want him to know her real feelings.
“I, I don’t know what happened. I’m sorry,” Minako,
ready to burst out in tears again, went to go inside.
Darien grabbed her arm and held her close. “Listen,
you’re MY responsibility while you’re living here
so you aren’t going anywhere until you tell me your
problem,” he was still mad.
Minako couldn’t take it anymore and, with tears running
down her face, just yelled out her feelings in one
big heap. “You want to know what’s wrong?! Let’s see,
my family is dead, I’m lonely all the time, and I
fell in love with you but you love someone else! What
is left for me here?! Fighting villains and getting
nowhere, that’s what! I know you could never love
me so I’ll just leave so you won’t have to worry about
it anymore!”
With that, Minako escaped from Darien’s clutches
and ran into the living room and out the door of the
apartment. She thought Darien had said yelled something
on her way out but didn’t stop to make sure. She would
never see him again, it was too embarrassing. She
had never told any boys how she had really felt, never
mind an older one.
But where would she go? She had nowhere and she knew
that, everybody knew that, she thought bitterly. To
get out of the night air, she ran into a building
across from the apartment complex to gather herself.
She quickly hid when she saw Darien run out, looking
for her of course.
“Oh, wow, he’s looking for his responsibility. Congratulations
to him,” she thought. She laughed out loud, “As if
he’s looking for me like he cares,” Minako said to
herself. She then thought of her old elementary school
friend. “Maybe I could stay with her?” she thought.
She decided it was better to try than to stay in an
alley somewhere. So, she made her way through the
streets and on her way to Yuri’s house.
